STICK FITTING

We know choosing the right stick for you can get confusing. There are all sorts of options and unhelpful technical jargon so we've designed this page to simplify the process for you. Because the goal is that you'll find the perfect stick for your style of play. That way you'll be able to snipe, sauce, and defend without worrying about your twig.

STICK FLEX

The proper flex can have a dramatic effect on your shot. By utilizing the flex of the stick, you're able to load up more power into your shots with less effort. But the truth is, flex is often improperly fitted which has led to many players buying sticks that are far too stiff. Flex is measured by the amount of weight (lbs) required to bend the stick 1" over a 1 meter span. To determine the best flex for you, a general starting point is that the flex should be around half of what your weight is. Take a look at the chart to find the right flex for you.

And if you've been playing for a while, be sure to experiment. You never know how much a change of 5-10 flex points could improve your shot!

LENGTH

Most players want the stick just under your chin when you are on skates. If you're a magician or dangler, you may like a shorter stick to have better control and pull the puck closer to your body. If you play defense, you may prefer a longer stick to cover more ice in your defensive zone.

*we measure our sticks by entire length

KICK-POINT

This refers to the point in the shaft where the flex is placed and is highly dependent on personal preference and shooting style. The most common kick points are:

LOW - flex point is toward the lower end of the shaft, closer to the blade. If you’ve used an Easton elliptical shaft or Bauer Vapor, then this is what you had. It tends to be better for quick wristers and snap shots.
MID - flex point is closest to the middle of the shaft. Carbon fiber sticks have historically had this kick-point up until recent years, therefore it’s the most common. Mid-flex tends to give you a fairly consistent “kick” whether you take a slapper or wrister.
HIGH - the flex point is at a higher point in the shaft. For players who like to keep their hands closer together on the stick, they may prefer a high-flex.

COMPARE BRANDS

We want to be upfront about everything so we put together this chart so you can see exactly how we match up to the other brands. Notice that to get a stick similar in weight, you have to spend close to double the price for the "big brands". And if you want to spend less, you have to sacrifice on weight & carbon construction.

OTHER FAQ'S

How are your sticks so inexpensive? Are they REALLY pro stock?

Well, technically "pro-stock" means it has been designed for a particular professional player...so NO. But when you take away the pro name and look "under the hood", it's made of the same stuff — 100% toray carbon fiber, true one-piece molding process, and rigorous testing. We work with engineers and designers who have worked with the "big guys" to ensure giving you the highest quality available.

And we're able to offer such an affordable price for 2 main reasons:

1. We're a non-profit dedicated to growing a more sustainable hockey community, not making a bunch of money.

2. We don't have a bunch of overhead, marketing, or player endorsements that force us to jack up our prices. That means we can pass on more savings to you!

Do you plan to offer any other gear in the future?

Yep! We sure do!

Where is your company located?

We're based out of a garage minutes north of the beautiful city of Seattle. #startup #nhlseattle

Your packaging is different than what I've seen used before? What's up with that?

2 things. One, we are trying to be as sustainably sourced as possible, therefore  we get much of our packaging (even our box tape & shipping labels!) from EcoEnclose. Two, we want to save you money. A traditional box costs over 200% more to ship a hockey stick. Our bubblewrap + bag method helps us give you an even better deal on your stick. PLUS, your purchase is insured so you don't have anything to worry about!

Why should I buy sticks from COHO instead of one of the other smaller stick brands?

It's a bit absurd to think every single hockey player will buy sticks from us. It's more important for you to get a stick you're satisfied with. You should try them and try us and see what you like more. But what's unique about Coastal is our commitment to making a social impact and when you buy from us, you are becoming a contributor!

Do you offer team sales & discounts?

Yes, we do! Head over to our Contact page and send us a note with what you need and we'll work out all of the details and pricing.

Do you have a Brand Ambassador Program?

We don't have anything official yet but follow us on Instagram and you'll find out when we launch something.

You mention your apparel is sustainably sourced? Where do you get it from?

We work with Recover Brands (based out of North Carolina) for most of our clothing items. They use 100% recycled materials and are committed to environmental and social responsibility.
